Made-in-America

'Conscious America’ is a site designed, in hope, to show that we can control many critical aspects of our lives, if we choose to accept responsibility for the choices that we make.

Are you an optimist, pessimist or a cynic? And, do you speak Zombie?Date Released: 10/29/2005
When the question was asked: "Is the glass half full or half empty?" for some reason I could not understand what the fuss is all about. I always thought that the answer is: We have so much water, for so many people, to last us so much time... and whether it's enough or not is irrelevant – it is a simple reality.

So when I hear politicians say “We are rebuilding New Orleans”, and later someone clarifies that the levee now will be able to withstand the forces of a category 3 hurricane, I’m frightened by the reality that I live among aliens or “Zombies”; I can’t seem to understand them.

Didn’t we know that sooner or later New Orleans would be hit by a category 4 or 5 hurricane? We did! We were warned for decades that the storm is coming and the levees are not strong enough! And after the death of over 1,000 people, and the pain and devastation that is beyond imaginable, this society is rebuilding the same inadequate levee?

As I watch reports on TV where some accuse the government of failures in Iraq and ask for withdrawal of our troops, while others describe the ‘progress’ there, I wonder: Isn’t there a consciousness somewhere to demand immediate constructive changes to this continuing self-made disaster, without abandoning our responsibilities in Iraq?
As so many politicians scream about the threat we are facing from the terrorists, we have unprotected borders, where millions of people cross it illegally each year, and the president asserts that he does “whatever is needed to protect this country!”

Whether I look at the education in this country, crime, poverty ($7/hr wages), absence of national health program, abandoned principals and responsibility or the disconnect between what people choose to see and the reality, I see so much darkness and pain ahead.
A spiritual part of me says that only through pain and suffering the Universe can teach and help us to evolve. A human part of me is frightened every time someone says, “We are the greatest nation!” or something similar, in a language of Zombie.

Whether I have a cynical or pessimistic outlook on America is irrelevant, but I’m glad I never learned to speak Zombie.
